II.Tools for wireless monitoring

NetStumbler (also known as Network Stumbler) is a tool for Windows that facilitates detection of Wireless LANs using the 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g WLAN standards. It runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. A trimmed-down version called MiniStumbler is available for the handheld Windows CE operating system.

Wireshark is a free and open-source packet analyzer. It is used for network troubleshooting, analysis, software and communications protocol development, and education. Originally named Ethereal, in May 2006 the project was renamed Wireshark due to trademark issues.[4]
WirelessMon is a software tool that allows users to monitor the status of wireless WiFi adapter(s) and gather information about nearby wireless access points and hot spots in real time. WirelessMon can log the information it collects into a file, while also providing comprehensive graphing of signal level and real time IP and 802.11 WiFi statistics.
inSSIDer is Wi-Fi network scanner software for Microsoft Windows from MetaGeek, LLC. It received a 2008 Infoworld Bossie Award for "Best of open source software in networking".[1] There is now also a version for Mac.
Kismet is a network detector, packet sniffer, and intrusion detection system for 802.11 wireless LANs. Kismet will work with any wireless card which supports raw monitoring mode, and can sniff 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n traffic. The program runs under Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Mac OS X. The client can also run on Microsoft Windows, although, aside from external drones (see below), there's only one supported wireless hardware available as packet source.
AirView 1.0 is a wireless packet monitor for the 802.11b Wi-Fi and Ethernet wired LAN networks packet sniffer. AirView captures wireless network packets, and helps you to visually monitor the WLAN packet activities. Airview 1.0 for WiFi captures every packet on the air and supports both Ethernet LAN and 802.11 and displays network traffic at the MAC level. You see real 802.11 frames, not just the data after it has been filtered through an Ethernet emulation.
