  14. Buna ziua! Multumesc. Raspunsul celor de la firma: Stimata doamna! In poseta dumneavoastra nu puteti baga o blana. Explicatie: Poseta - floppy Blana - filmul Biletel - “shortcut” Dulap - calculator Molia din dulap - virus Vecinul in dulap - hacker

  16. Firefox 4 is nearly done and one of the first things that most users are likely to notice occurs right at the start-up. Firefox 4 starts faster than any previous version of Firefox. I recently visited Mozilla's Toronto office and got some really great insight into how Mozilla was able to speed up the Firefox start-up. "You know how every day Firefox pings to get a list of blocked add-ons for security, what we send in that ping now is one number and that number is, how long did it take you to start-up this morning," Mike Beltzner Director of Firefox told me. "So we're getting live start-up data from the field." Beltzner noted that the variability different platforms is incredible and Mozilla can't have every possible hardware and software combination on their own. By having the startup information, Mozilla developers are able to see if the changes being made in Firefox 4 are actually making things faster. Mozilla is being very respectful of user privacy with this ping and are only collecting the startup speed number. The ping does not identify the OS, CPU, RAM or any other potentially identifying piece of information. The fact that Mozilla is not tracking different hardware configurations is an interesting point on its own. Beltzner and Johnathan Nightingale (the 'other' Director of Firefox) told me that it doesn't matter since the overall sample size will take care of the stats. "What we want to do is find out where the 90 percent is and make sure that for most users their is a decreasing arc for startup," Beltzner said.
  17. From the "Nefarious Netbook' files: Canonical has decided to retire the Ubuntu Netbook Remix - as a named product. The Netbook Remix was a personal favorite of mine, as it made it easy for me to point my netbook friends at it, as an easy replacement for whatever OS was installed by default on their device. Netbooks after all have under-powered CPUs, low RAM and small screens. The needs of Netbook users are categorically different than regular desktop users right? "The introduction of the new shell for Ubuntu means that we have a user interface that works equally well whatever the form factor of the PC,"Gerry Carr, director platform marketing at Canonical blogged. "And the underlying technology works on a range of architectures including those common in netbook, notebooks, desktops or whatever you choose to run it on. Hence the need for a separate version for netbooks is removed." I'm not so sure I agree. While I understand that Ubuntu (as a brand and as a product) can extend to all sorts of different form factors on the desktop, how can a desktop optimized for an Intel Core i5/i7 chip supported by 4 GB of RAM have reasonable performance on an Intel Atom chip with only 1 GB of RAM behind it? Kernel optimizations are different aren't they? Linux distros have long had x86 and x86-64 versions and I have always appreciated the Netbook Remix in the same light. The Netbook Remix in my view was an interesting product brand that helped to differentiate both Ubuntu and the specific product. On the hand, if there is just one default installer that lets users customize specifically for Atom and Netbook constraints that would be brilliant. By generalizing and flattening the brand, Canonical is attempting to reduce potential brand confusion (though you were never confused were you?).
