You might find this useful . CamStudio is free , adds no watermarks and is pretty versatile . Go to : http://www.camstudio.org/ Scroll down , download CamStudio20.exe . http://www.camstudio.org/CamStudio20.exe Install it (see following) Run CamStudio . (It's icon will be on the desktop) Go to the Region menu , and make sure "Region" is selected . This will make CamStudio ask you to select a region every time you record . Alternatively , you can select "Fixed Region..." if you intend to record from the same source (MSN webcam size is the same for everyone) , or Full Screen , for full screen recording . Next , configure the video . Go to the Options menu , click "Video Options" . Just make sure it looks like this : You can use "Microsoft Video 1" , but I STRONGLY RECOMMEND "ffdshow Video Codec" . Make sure the quality is around 85-90 . When done , hit Ok . You may want to enable sound , if the person has a mic and you can hear them . Go back to the "Options" menu and select "Record audio from speakers" If the person doesn't have a mic , Do not record audio . It will only increase file size unnecessarily . You're done configuring , time to record . Assuming you selected "Region" from the Region menu , this is how it goes : Click the red circle . Your pointer will turn into that eyedropper . Drag a rectangle over the region you want to record . Here , I will record an empty portion of the screen : Make sure not to move the window containing the webcam part . Also try not to drag things across or obscure the part being recorded . It's annoying . When you're done , hit the blue square [in the CamStudio window] You will be prompted with a Save window . Enter a file name . IT MUST END IN .avi ! Like in the picture above . After saving , a player will pop up , but basically , you're done . You may now close both the player and CamStudio . Upload the video to rapidshare and/or megaupload , post the vids in the forum and enjoy your kudos . -- naaraxi
