Linux Ubuntu is an Open-Source operating System and it have very unique and sleek look. You may find many interesting thing in “Linux Ubuntu” i.e. its look, new icons, theme, sounds, logon screen, boot screen, etc. If you are using Windows XP but want to enjoy the “Linux Ubuntu look” then this tutorial will sure help you.

How to Install Ubuntu icons?

Run ‘IconTweaker and install. Then simply run IconTweaker from the start menu and drag ‘Ubuntu Icontweaker Theme’ into the window.

3. Boot Screen

Ubuntu Boot Screen is very unique and bit different from Windows XP boot screen. If you want same ubuntu boot screen in Windows Xp then this article will help you to do so. How to Install Boot Skin?

There are two alternative methods to Install Ubuntu Boot Screen on Windows XP i.e. TuneUp Utilities & Boot Skin Installer.

1. TuneUp Utilities (2007, 2008, 2009 Version)

Open “TuneUp Utilities” > Customize Windows > TuneUp Styler > Boot Skin > Add. (Find Ubuntu Boot Skin Folder, where “ubuntu.bootskin” Exist, Select “ubuntu.bootskin” then Click on Install.

2. BootSkin Installer (Provided In Folder)

Run ‘BootSkin Installer’ and install BootSkin. Run the program and drag ‘ubuntu.bootskin’ into the window. Now simply set it as the bootskin.

4. Ubuntu Cursor

The cursor in the ubuntu operating system is very unique and it is bit different form Windows XP and Windows Vista icons. A deviantart user have created ubuntu cursor for Windows XP which is very similar to the cursors that found in Ubuntu OS. If you want same cursors in Windows XP then this article will help you to do so.

5. About Ubuntu Dialog Box

Ubuntu About dialog box, it is bit fancy and have attractive look in Ubuntu if compared with Windows XP about dialog Box. If you are transforming Windows XP into Ubuntu then this article might help you. As because I have created the Ubuntu about dialog box on my own Imagination. Below is the preview of Ubuntu About dialog box for Windows XP:

To change the About Windows box you’ll need to change 2 things:

Firstly, you need to download BITMAP file (Download About ubuntu BITMAP), now you have to download Resource Hacker utility after-that follow the tutorial below:

Open “%windir%\System32\Shell32.dll” file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the downloaded BMP file:

Bitmap -> 131 -> 1033 (For XP Professional)

Bitmap -> 147 -> 1033 (For XP Home)

Now open %windir%\System32\msgina.dll file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the downloaded BMP file:

Bitmap -> 101 -> 1033 (For XP Professional)

Bitmap -> 107 -> 1033 (For XP Professional)

Bitmap -> 128 -> 1033 (For XP Home)

Bitmap -> 129 -> 1033 (For XP Home)

Now to change the text of dialog box, open “%windir%\System32\xpsp1res.dll” file in Resource Hacker and then goto:

Dialog -> 14352 -> 1033

Now replace the existing code in right-side pane with the code in following file:

Download About Dialog Box Code

Click on Compile Script button and save the file.

6. Shutdown Dialog Box

Ubuntu doesnt have any Shutdown Dialog Box. If you are transforming Windows XP into Ubuntu then this article will help you to get ubuntu look in shutdown dialog box. So I have tried to create Ubuntu Shutdown Dialog Box for Windows XP on my imagination. If you wish then you might want to give a try.

To get similar shutdown dialog box as shown in the Image above, you have to follow the tutorial below:

First of all you have to download Shutdown BMPs after that Extract the file and you’ll get 4 BMPs with the name:

1.bmp

2.bmp

3.bmp

4.bmp

Now open “%windir%\System32\Shell32.dll” file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the mentioned BMP files:

Bitmap -> 14351 -> 1033 with 1.bmp

Bitmap -> 14353 -> 1033 with 2.bmp

Bitmap -> 14354 -> 1033 with 1.bmp

Bitmap -> 14355 -> 1033 with 2.bmp

Bitmap -> 14356 -> 1033 with 3.bmp

Now save the file and open %windir%\System32\msgina.dll file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the mentioned BMP files:

Bitmap -> 20140 -> 1033 with 1.bmp

Bitmap -> 20141 -> 1033 with 2.bmp

Bitmap -> 20142 -> 1033 with 1.bmp

Bitmap -> 20143 -> 1033 with 2.bmp

Bitmap -> 20150 -> 1033 with 4.bmp

Now save the file.

7. Ubuntu Firefox Skin

Ubuntu visual style created by a deviantart user FioreSSj, is very unique and it is widely appreciated. The default look of firefox in ubuntu is bit different and have very attractive look. If you want same look in your firefox browser then this article will help you to do so. Below is the preview of Ubuntu Firefox Skin for Windows XP:

How to install?

To install, open Firefox, go to ‘Tools’ > ‘Add-ons’, and drag ‘ubuntu_human_theme-2.0.4-fx‘ into the Add-ons window. Restart Firefox and select the theme from the list. You can use this theme only in following versions of firefox: 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.0.3, 2.0.4.

8. Ubuntu Styler

Ubuntu Styler, let you to add extra effects in Windows explorer so that your Windows XP will look-a-like linux ubuntu. If you are ready and willing to give a try to Ubuntu Styler in Your Windows XP then you might want to see the final preview first, So following is the Preview of Ubuntu Styler:

9. Ubuntu System Properties

Ubuntu System Properties Dialog Box, is bit different from Windows XP System Properties Dialog Box. On internet you will not find a single System Properties Dialog Box for Ubuntu. I have tried hard to create Ubuntu System Properties Dialog Box for Windows XP. Below is the preview of Ubuntu System Properties Dialog Box:

If You liked and willing to give a try to this dialog box in your Windows XP then you have to follow the instructions given below:

First of all you have to Download ubuntu System Properties Dialog Box for Windows XP, after that Replace original sysdm.cpl in c:\Windows\System32\sysdm.cpl with the sysdm.cpl Provided in the Folder. Be sure to make a backup of the original file. Use Replacer software.

10. Ubuntu Wallpapers
