[Book] Inside Cyber Warfare: Mapping the Cyber Underworld
wvw posted a topic in Tutoriale in engleza
Inside Cyber Warfare goes beyond the headlines of attention-grabbing DDoS attacks and takes a deep look inside multiple cyber-conflicts that occurred from 2002 through summer 2009. Learn how cyber attacks are waged in open conflicts, including recent hostilities between Russia and Georgia, and Israel and Palestine Discover why Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal, Vkontakte, and other sites on the social web are mined by the intelligence services of many nations Read about China's commitment to penetrate the networks of its technologically superior adversaries as a matter of national survival Find out why many attacks originate from servers in the United States, and who's responsible Learn how hackers are "weaponizing" malware to attack vulnerabilities at the application level http://rapidshare.com/files/322899691/Inside_Cyber_Warfare.pdf Istorie contemporan?, deci. -

Linus Torvalds isn't a hacker! Richard Stallman isn't a hacker! Niels Provos isn't a hacker! Fat/ugly, maybe! Hackers, no! And what is up with the use of the term "cracker"? As far as I'm concerned, that term applies to people that bypass copyright protection mechanisms. Vladimir Levin? HACKER. phiber optik? HACKER. Kevin Mitnick? OK, maybe a gay/bad one, but still WAS a "hacker." Hope that's clear. Continua?i, v? rog -
Stuxnet exploited not just one zero-day Windows bug but four -- an unprecedented number for a single piece of malware. Researchers studying the worm all agree that Stuxnet was built by a very sophisticated and capable attacker -- possibly a nation state -- and it was designed to destroy something big. Iranian government representatives did not return messages seeking comment for this story, but sources within the country say that Iran has been hit hard by the worm. When it was first discovered, 60 percent of the infected Stuxnet computers were located in Iran, according to Symantec. Experts had first thought that Stuxnet was written to steal industrial secrets -- factory formulas that could be used to build counterfeit products. But Langner found something quite different. The worm actually looks for very specific Siemens settings -- a kind of fingerprint that tells it that it has been installed on a very specific Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) device -- and then it injects its own code into that system. The problem is not Stuxnet. Stuxnet is history. The problem is the next generation of malware that will follow. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2010/09/the_stuxnet_wor.html Vremuri interesante.

Interesant A group called UpLevel was originally in a partnership working on the ZeuS source code. But today researchers suspect there's only one author of ZeuS, and this individual is now exerting tight control over the current ZeuS 1.3 (and later) versions by instituting a hardware-based copyright-protection mechanism. SecureWorks researcher Kevin Stevens says the ZeuS hardware-based copyright mechanism is based on a hardware token method, similar to WinLicense, that takes into account a lot of hardware details about a computer before allowing the ZeuS Builder toolkit code to be unlocked by an individual. http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/031110-zeus-botnet.html
